Jay Mohr to Host NHL Awards and other NHL Tidbits

by Lisa Ovens

Wow...where have I been? Occasionally I have to ask myself that question after momentary lapses in posting. So to sum things up quickly...

Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks on winning the Stanley Cup, and to the Philadelphia Flyers for trying so hard. Honorable mention goes to the Nashville Predators and the Vancouver Canucks for being knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual Windy City Champions (the San Jose Sharks, ah...not so much).

Now let's quickly remember the other playoff teams...Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils...woohoo everybody, woohoo.

Speaking of the Canadiens, the Montreal Gazette is reporting as of next season, the city will be billing the Canadiens for extra costs incurred by the city during the post season (translation: all that stuff related to rioting fans) Montreal Gazette

There are hockey movies, hockey songs, hockey poems and hockey plays. Now there will be a hockey musical, and it will debut during the Toronto International Film Festival this fall. Score: A Hockey Musical stars Noah Reid (a Toronto film actor, life long Leafs fan...quell surprise there) and features Olivia Newton John, Marc Jordan, Nelly Furtado, Stephen McHattie and Hawksley Workman. Barenaked Ladies contribute to the film's soundtrack (quelle suprise there...again) Hollywood North

Everyone knows the hockey season isn't officially over until we collectively groan and/or pick apart every little detail of the NHL Awards Show the following day so let's get started on that groaning and dissecting now...
Actor/ comedian Jay Mohr will be hosting The NHL Awards in Las Vegas Wednesday June 23rd. Sometimes I find Jay to be quite funny. I hope this non hockey fan has enough acting chops to act like a fan of the game during the telecast. For more potential groaning material...click NHL AWARDS.

World Hockey Summit - sounds serious, eh? Yes, this August a world hockey summit will take place in the Centre of the Universe (Toronto). The Summit leadership team includes Daniel Alfredsson, Steve Yzerman, Hayley Wickenheiser, and Brian Burke. Sponsored by Molson (because hockey and beer go so well together) the summit gathering will take on issues involving women's hockey, international competitions, player safety and skill development. Date: August 23-26th, 2010.World Hockey Summit .
